LESSONS FROM THE MINES OF MARANAGA I

LESSONS FROM THE MINES OF MARANAGA

Somewhere, far into the hinterlands of the country of Zimbabwe is a place called Maranaga. Maranaga’s main challenge was that it was located afar off from the main part of the country so they suffered a lot of setbacks and backwardness. They had a very small school, their farm land was poor and so their crops always failed. They tried in vain for many years to gain the attention of the government but nothing was forth coming. So the people of Maranaga kept living in abject poverty hoping that someday in the future luck will smile down on them.
And then one day it did, luck came smiling. A certain man paid a visit to Maranaga, and the rest as they say has become history.
Here is what happened. The visitor to Maranaga turned out to be a geologist. He discovered that there was actually diamonds in the land, in fact unlike a normal diamond mine where you would have to dig for diamond; the diamonds of Maranaga existed on the surface level. Because it was in the raw and unprocessed form, the people couldn’t recognize it as diamonds. Until someone showed them it was. Today the Maranaga is considered the fourth largest diamond deposit in the world. To think that these people were so rich and endowed, but they lived in abject poverty because they did not know the immense amount of wealth that they possess potentially.
I believe that the story of the people of Maranaga holds a lot of lessons we can draw from regarding human potential.
  1. There is nobody who does not have something great inside of him or her. You have something great inside of you which the world is looking for; you only need to discover it.….. more lessons in my next post. Keep it a date.
